Defender Jimmy Dunne says that Saturday’s trip to Luton could prove to be Stanley’s biggest game of the season.
The Reds win over Morecambe on Tuesday evening ensured that the trip to Kenilworth Road would be a ‘top of the table clash’ with the winners taking top spot.
And, the on-loan Burnley defender has praised the effort of his teammates to keep a third straight home clean sheet and move within a point of the Hatters.
“I couldn’t be more pleased,” said the 20-year-old. “We’ve set things up perfectly with that win, we go there on Saturday, and for me, it could be the biggest game we will play this season.
“The skipper said to us before the game it’s the amount of hardworking, dirty games and the 1-0 wins that are going to count for us the most.
“That showed true, the second half was 45 minutes of pure battling, everybody working as hard as they can to earn another 1-0 win.
“We need to take that same attitude into Saturday, press them from the front, like we have been doing so well, and we’ll give ourselves a very good chance.
“We know that the prize for the winners on Saturday is top of the league, so three points, yes please.”
It was announce earlier this week that Dunne, who joined the Reds in January, had been nominated for Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month, for his performances in February.
“It’s really good to hear that I’ve been nominated and I’m pleased,” he added. “But it isn’t something that I will be getting distracted with.
“The team winning matches is the most important thing, that’s what I will be judged on at the end of the season, not an individual achievement.”
