The Kinder + Sports EFL Girls Cup is a national, annual event which sees under 13 girls from around the country have the opportunity to play at Wembley.

Accrington Stanley have held their local round of the cup over the last month which saw eight schools take part in the 6 aside tournament.

The tournament kicked off at Accrington Academy on the 5th October and saw a high standard of football being played by all teams involved. Mount Carmel and St Christopher’s beat the competition to make it through to the final.

The final was held at half time at Accrington Stanley v Yeovil last week, which saw Mount Carmel defeat their local rivals 3 – nil with goals coming from Shannon, Alex and Holly.

Mount Carmel will now go on to represent Accrington Stanley in the regional round in the New Year and if they are successful they will battle it out in the national round.

Elle Kayley, Female Football Development Officer commented, ‘It’s brilliant to see local girls take part in competitive competitions. All the girls that took part showed great skills and passion in their matches. We hope that by having the final at half time on a match day it encourages other girls to consider taking up girl’s football’.
