Scott Brown believes that the harder Stanley work the luckier they will get as they look to end their winless run in the league.

The Reds head to Grimsby on Boxing Day having not taken three points since mid-October despite a string of close games and near misses.

The midfielder is one of the more experienced members of the squad at the Wham Stadium and thinks that continuing to keep their performance levels up will ultimately bring rewards.

“The luck’s not with us at the minute and there’s only us who can change that,” he said. “It’s about working hard, continuing to do everything right, getting the basics right and that luck will turn and we’ll start picking up points again.

“It’s all about getting results and we need to get one desperately. We think Grimsby is the perfect place to go to go and kick our season on.

“The games can’t come quick enough for us. We want to put this bad run of form to bed. That starts with getting that first win. We’ve been playing well, we did well against Plymouth and another sloppy goal has killed us but we’re creating and it’s just a matter of time before one of those chances goes in and we think the floodgates will then open.

“You can tell there are a few nerves in a few of the players but it’s up to the more experienced lads to bring them through that. As long as everyone keeps pulling together and working hard we think it’s only a matter of time.”

Brown joined Stanley from the Mariners having gone to Wembley in a play-off final with Grimsby.

His focus is solely on one team as the game looms though.

“I’ve got good memories of my time at Grimsby,” he admitted. “We had a great little squad there, they took me in and it’s a big club and a great club who I wish well other then on Boxing Day. We need the result more than they do so I’m determined to help us get it.”
