Stanley are through to the semi-finals of the Lancashire Senior Cup after a 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic in the last eight.

The win at Robin Park sets up a tie with Everton for a place in the final.

A Reds side including a number of first team players took to the field against Wigan’s development squad and took an early lead when midfielder Kealan Steenson converted Shay McCartan’s cross to open the scoring.

The visitors suffered a setback when Andy Procter was dismissed on the stroke of half time for his reaction to a tackle on him.

But they came out on their mettle in the second period and repelled the home team’s attempts to level things up.

With just a few minutes remaining Stanley doubled their lead when substitute Marcus Carver headed home from a Gerardo Bruna free kick.

The Reds will now tackle Premier League outfit Everton in the last four, with details to be confirmed.

Stanley: Etheridge, Wakefield, Goulding, Quansah, Buxton, Procter, Steenson, McCartan, Callaway, Bruna, Gornell
