Matty Pearson thinks Stanley feels like home after signing a new two and a half year contract with the Reds.

The Yorkshireman arrived from Halifax in the summer and has gone on to be an ever present in first team games this season.

He’s now committed his future to the Reds until summer 2018.

“It’s great to have my future sorted,” said the 22-year-old. “This club suits me as I live reasonably close by, we’ve been playing well and it felt right here from the moment I joined.

“This is such a warm club. You’re welcomed wherever you go and whoever you speak to and with the players we have at the moment I think we have a great chance of achieving something. I buy into the way the gaffer and Jimmy do everything and I think all the lads do and we’re going in the right direction.

“I knew what John Coleman and Jimmy Bell were all about before I came here from playing under them at Rochdale so I knew exactly what I had to do. I think I’ve done that so far and shown what I’m capable of.

“You never know what is round the corner in football. You could get dropped or injured at any time but I’m pleased to have been involved in all the games and hope it can continue.

“I don’t have a lot of Football League experience and the main thing is playing football. I feel here I have a great chance of playing a good amount of games and help get Accrington up the leagues.

“This group of players could be fantastic but you never know what other people have on their minds. We don’t really discuss it in the dressing room. All I know is that I’m really happy here and I know that the gaffer and Jimmy will get the best out of whatever players are here.

“We’ve got a great bunch of lads here and when you play with great players you know what they’re going to do. We’ve clicked and complemented each other this season and I hope that can continue.”
