John Coleman knows goal hero Billy Kee will get the headlines but he was full of praise for captain Terry Gornell after the 1-0 win at Bristol Rovers.

Kee scored his first Stanley goal on his return to the Reds in the 68th minute at the Memorial Ground with an overhead kick to give Stanley their first away win of the season and move them up to tenth spot in the league.

“Billy is a poacher and will get the headlines but I thought Terry Gornell led the line unbelievably well,” said Coleman.

“He was a constant threat, he never stopped running and on another day could have had a goal.

“We always know Billy will score goals and it will be a boost for him to get off the mark.”

Coleman has been back in charge of Stanley for a year now and said: “Time flies when you are having fun! We won on our first game back and we have won again so it’s good.

“We made a bold statement at the start of the season, even though we haven’t got the greatest finances and the lowest budget in the league, and we have assembled a strong squad here.

“We know if we play like we can, we can beat anyone on our day and we have got to make sure we have more good days than bad days.

“If we have more good days, we will be challenging at the top and not the bottom – and this was a good day.”
