John Coleman was happy with a point at promotion-favourites Portsmouth although he felt his side could have won it.

The Reds drew 0-0 at Paul Cook’s side but had chances through Sean McConville, Josh Windass and Terry Gornell to take all three.

Coleman said: “I am happy with a draw because I know how difficult it is to come to places like this with 15,000 fans baying for blood.

“I applaud that and I had some banter with the some of the crowd and these are the games you want to play in. It’s just a pity we can’t play in front of a crowd like that every week and they can.

“We came here and had a game plan, we focused on our jobs and we had a couple of great chances. We didn’t come here to settle for a point. Some teams will come here to shut-up shop and go for a 0-0, we have come here and tried to win and we could have but a draw was probably a fair result.”

Coleman doesn’t usually single players out but had special words for centre half Tom Davies, who signed after his release from Fleetwood in the summer without a league game under his belt.

“You wouldn’t think Tom has played only a handful of games. The way he defends belies his inexperience and I cannot comprehend how he has only played this many league games.

“He had the pressure of the crowd, he picked up an injury in the first half but there was no way he was coming off and you have got to applaud that. And he wasn’t alone.

“We will always have a go but the worry is we have only won one game this season which is a concern which needs to be addressed. We have stopped leaking goals which was our main problem last season but now we have got to marry that up with scoring goals.”
