Billy Kee expects Bury to see a different side to Stanley when they meet in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tomorrow.

The Reds have been regular opponents for the Shakers in behind closed doors games since Dave Flitcroft’s side won promotion last season.

But Kee anticipates a competitive meeting being a very different proposition.

“We’ve played Bury a couple of times in training games and now the lads that play in this one have to show what we are capable of,” said the striker. “We have to show what we did against Hull and show the level we can perform at.

“Winning will give us a bit of extra confidence. At the end of the day Bury are a very good side but they’ve been struggling a bit in their league despite us playing them in pre-season and feeling they were one of the best teams we’d played.

“They’ll be coming here with a strong side and looking to have a go at us and I think that will help us. Behind closed doors games are hard because they are really nothing games. They’re for fitness levels and that’s about it. This will show the real us. We know what they will turn up like and we know we have to perform. We’ll go out there and have to fight and we’re hoping we’ll show what we are really about.”

Kee has made mostly substitute appearances since his return to the club but will hope to start tomorrow as he seeks a first goal since signing in the summer.

But he’s also targeting a morale boosting victory to set the team up for long trips to Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers in League To.

“What’s in our minds at the moment is the league and everything else comes second,” he explained. “We want to win all the games but the league is the thing you think about all the time. We have to sort out our consistency and get more wins. We have six points and need to kick on with four big games coming up but winning this tie can only help.”
