John Coleman praised late goal hero Matt Crooks as Stanley drew 1-1 at Notts County.

Crooks fired home in the 89th minute to rescue a point for Stanley after Graham Burke had put the Magpies ahead in the 76th minute.

Liam Noble was sent off for County in the 86th minute for a tackle on Josh Windass, who is expected to recover for next week.

“It’s Crooksy’s first league goal and he had a smashing game  – and he will get better,” said Coleman. “He has got a couple of things to improve on but he could be a millionaire player.

“There are millionaires who haven’t got his talent and physique.”

Coleman also praised keeper Jason Mooney who made a number of vital saves.

“Jason stood up to it well and it will do Jase the world of good. We do look a lot more solid at the back. That’s no disrespect to the players who played last season but we conceded 78 goals which speaks for itself and we are looking a lot better defensively.”

The Reds boss added: “This game could have finished 6-6. It was a smashing game for the neutral, not so much for us.

“We should have been playing ten men sooner as it was a no brainer for me and their lad (Stanley Aborah) should have been sent off in the first half (for a tackle on Matt Crooks).

“But the lads worked really hard and got their rewards. It would have been harsh to come away with nothing.”
