Manager John Coleman believes tonight’s game with Rochdale will provide a good barometer for his side ahead of the League Two season, which is now less than a fortnight away.
The League One outfit visit the Store First Stadium in the first of two home games this week.
And Coleman expects it to be a testing period for his players.
“We’ll have a better idea of where we are in terms of preparation for the opening game after this week,” he said. “Rochdale had a good result against Huddersfield on Saturday so they’ll be a good side and it will be another test of the situation we’re in and the progress we’ve made in pre-season.
“It’s going to be difficult for me to give everyone a chance in these final two friendlies but we have a good set of lads who are all prepared to work hard for each other and they accept that only eleven can play at any one time but they are all pushing for places and that’s good.
“We have to keep our feet on the ground. We’ve had some good performances in pre-season already but it only counts when we play Luton. The game with Rochdale is another step in our preparation.
“You always want to win and get into the habit of winning but it is still all about getting the players in peak condition for the 8th of August.”
Coleman and assistant Jimmy Bell come up against a former club in the game and he thinks that will add to the event.
“We’re looking forward to it. I have no problems with Rochdale and I’m looking forward to playing against them and hope that they bring a decent following over.
“We’d encourage our fans to come down and see what we are all about ahead of the new season. I hope we can do ourselves justice.”
Kick off at the Store First Stadium is 7:45pm and admission prices are: Adults £10; Concessions, students and U17’s £5
