Gerardo Bruna is determined to show his best this season and he is keen to hit the ground running against Luton in the opening game of the League Two season.

The 24-year-old Argentine has signed a one-year deal at the Store First Stadium after coming in midway through the last season.

The former Real Madrid youngster admitted an injury hampered him towards the end of the last campaign but he is now fully focused on making his mark in the new season.

“I picked up an injury towards the end of last season so I didn’t know if the gaffer would offer me a new contract,” said winger Bruna.

“I was really pleased when he said he wanted me to stay. I have been working hard since we finished in May to get fit and arrive in the best shape I can for the new season.

“Now with the games coming up I can get match fit so I will be 100 per cent by the end of July and fully prepared for the start of the season.”

Bruna admitted he has settled into Accrington life and now knows what to expect from League Two.

“I have never lost my football ability but in England it’s all about fitness and it’s more physical. When I arrived at Accrington, I started training and that gave me some confidence and then the gaffer put me in the team at times which was good for me. It made me work even harder.

“Then I got the injury but now I am working as hard as I can to be ready for the new season.”

Bruna left Real Madrid to join Liverpool and admitted the number of scousers in the team have helped him.

“Some people say that the Liverpool accent is the hardest one to understand in England but that’s what I learnt when I first came here so I got used to it.

“It’s good as the gaffer is Liverpudlian as is assistant Jimmy Bell and a large number of players are scouse so it has definitely helped me settle here. It’s a good atmosphere – there are new faces but everyone is made to feel welcome.”
