John Coleman says past records count for nothing when Stanley travel to Morecambe for the Good Friday clash.

The Shrimps have not chalked up a win against the Reds in a league game in nearly 10 years – going back to their Conference days in October 2005.

But Coleman says this won’t be a factor for tomorrow’s derby clash at the Globe Arena.

“People go on about runs but the last time I went to Morecambe, with Rochdale, it wasn’t happy memories,” said Coleman.

“The fact they haven’t won against us in a league game for a long time may have a bearing on the fans but it makes no difference to the game as what happens on the pitch will be on its own merits.

“I obviously know Morecambe manager Jim Bentley and his assistant Kenny McKenna well and they will want to win for own persona l pride like Jimmy (Bell) and I want to win it for the same reason.

“We will be doing our utmost to win this match and it doesn’t account for the previous games.”

Morecambe are 13th in the league, having hit the magical 50 point target – they are four points ahead of the 17th placed Reds.

But they have lost their last four home games with Coleman looking for a reaction from his side following the Newport defeat last Saturday – Stanley haven’t won in their last seven matches.

“I am always upset if we lose especially with a freak goal,” continued the Reds boss. “We haven’t had a day off this week, I suppose it’s a bit like getting back to old-fashioned methods, as the best way to get us out of this rut is hard work.

“The lads have put in a great effort in training and now they have to transfer it onto the pitch tomorrow.”

Coleman has been using Piero Mingoia and Kal Naismith as wingbacks and had hinted about changes following the Newport loss.

“I have thought about changes but what happens tomorrow won’t be down to formations and systems, it will be down to work-rate, ability and passion.”
