John Coleman wants his side to be more ruthless in front of goal for tomorrow’s  clash with Northampton.

The Reds boss counted that his side had 20 chances on Tuesday  against Bury but they weren’t able to convert any – and the Shakers ran out 1-0 victors.

Coleman wants Stanley to get back to the form that saw them fire home five goals in the last meeting with the Cobblers in September, Coleman’s first game back in charge when the Reds ran out 5-4 winners.

“We converted our chances on that day,” said Coleman, with Northampton currently a point above Stanley in 14th place but the Reds have a game in hand.

“On Tuesday we had 20 shots and we must be doing something right to make that many.

“If we had better finishing, a bit of luck and had their keeper not made a couple of great saves then we could and should have won.

“When they go in, like they did at Northampton, it’s great and you do not get many games like that throughout a season, particularly away from home.

“We have got to believe we will score goals and win games because the squad is good enough, we haven’t become a bad team overnight and we have quality in our side.

“We have good enough attackers and we need to get them to click and, when they get the ball in front of goal, they have got to be more ruthless.”

Coleman was boosted by Tuesday’s performance against promotion-chasing Bury but knows his side need to get out of a rut after three successive defeats.

“We showed signs of improvement on Tuesday and we have to take this into tomorrow’s game. We are disappointed but you can’t get too down as there were shoots of recovery.

“Tomorrow could be our day so we have to keep up the level of performance.”
