John Coleman is backing his team to go on a run into the promotion places after Tom Aldred scored a 92nd minute winner in the 2-1 victory at Exeter City.
Stanley went behind to a Tom Nichols headed goal but Shay McCartan and defender Aldred’s late winner secured three points to push the Reds back up towards the promotion places.
And now the Stanley boss wants this one result to lead to a run and then ‘it could snowball’ as they press for the top seven.
“The lads worked their socks off from the first minute to the last,” said Coleman. “We were disappointed to go in 1-0 down at half-time as they scored from their one attack and then they didn’t have any chances until the final 10 minutes.
“I have been bemoaning that since I came back to the club we haven’t scored any last minute goals, and late goals were ten-a-penny last season, but Tom Aldred has done that today.
“Tom made an unbelievable block on the line at one end and then scored at the other – I think he is confused about his role at the club. I told him to do what he does best and he says he is good at both ends of the pitch!
“Shay also deserves the plaudits for his goal but also for his work-rate. He was out on his feet when we took him off and it was a fantastic ball in by Moly (Lee Molyneux) for his goal.
“It is difficult for the players as they are immersed in the game but I am watching them play and we so very close to being one of the best sides in the league.
“We have just got to believe in ourselves a bit more but we can get there.
“Hopefully this result can help us go on a run and it could snowball as that is where we want to be – in the promotion places.”
