John Coleman is determined to find the winning formula as Stanley prepare for this afternoon’s visit of promotion-chasing Burton Albion.

The Reds boss admits that he is scratching his head at the inconsistencies of  his side – that they can perform so well at Portsmouth in front of a crowd of 15,000 but then lose to York on Boxing Day which was City’s first win at home this season.

“When we lost to York the first thing you do is look at yourself – did I pick the right side?I believe I did as in the first half we were more than in the game and then suddenly it went away from us,” said Coleman.

“I am not perfect and we are looking for that formula and the right ingredients to win games. I believe we will get it right.

“The frustrating thing is we will never have a better chance as this season to do something as this league is much-of-a-muchness. At the moment, we have got dragged into that and we have got to be better.

“I believe in my players and they must believe in themselves.”

Coleman is hoping his team will turn on the style today against Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side who are gunning for automatic promotion after missing out in the play-off final last year to Fleetwood.

“I know if we play to the best of our ability we can beat anyone in this league but we can also lose to anyone in this league, we are not consistent enough,” admitted the Reds boss.

“We have got to improve in front of goal and we have got to improve in our decision-making. That is key at the moment as we are being punished.

“Hopefully we will get a response today.”
