Accrington Stanley will travel to League One high-flyers Notts County  in the first round of the FA Cup.

While captain Luke Joyce admitted it wasn’t the best of draws for Stanley, he can take some comfort in the fact his only FA Cup goal was at Meadow Lane.

“It did come in the 4-1 defeat when we played them in the first round of the FA Cup  in 2011 but at least I have scored at Meadow Lane!”  said the captain.

“While you want a home draw, and a few of us were cursing Phil Neville, it’s a good game for us to test ourselves and we did win at Notts County in 2011 in the league so we can take some heart from that – we were one of the few teams to beat them then.”

The FA Cup defeat in 2011 came after Andy Procter was sent off on the hour and Joyce scored a consolation in the 85th minute. Dean Winnard was the other member of the Stanley team who played in that game and is still at the Store First Stadium.

In League Two in December 2009, Stanley were one of the few teams to beat the Magpies at their ground, with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Michael Symes and Jimmy Ryan.

“We will do our best and we will be aiming to shock them,” said Joyce. “There is no reason why we can’t cause a cup upset.”

The games will be played across the weekend 7th-10th November.
