“There’s nothing quite like a derby,” said Joyce. “One or two of the lads haven’t played against Morecambe before but we’ve been telling them this week how important this game is, the record we’ve got and how desperate we are to keep it going.

“Those lads have been looking forward to their first taste of it and the rest of us can’t wait to get involved again. It’s a Friday night, under the lights and that’s always a special combination here.

“A lot of the lads on the pitch on Friday night will be on opposition teams but know each other well. I know the Morecambe manager and quite a lot of their lads but this derby is pretty unique because you are pitched into battle against each other twice a season and don’t like each other at all but for the rest of the year you get on really well.

“The two clubs have a lot in common, with small budgets and relatively small fan bases but regularly overachieve and do well against all the odds.

“These games tend to be good to watch too, just look at last season when it was a battle at their place and we won it in the last minute and then to beat them 5-1 was a great night for us and our fans. It’s a game I’ve always enjoyed and we’re just looking to build on our last couple of performances and get another good result.”
