Anthony Barry has joined Accrington Stanley on a loan deal until January from Conference side Forest Green Rovers.
The 28-year-old midfielder is returning to the club where he began his senior career following his release by Coventry City as a youngster and played in last night’s Lancashire Senior Cup defeat to Manchester United.
“We haven’t got a great deal of cover in midfield and that’s an area that we’ve highlighted for strengthening,” said manager John Coleman.
“He did exactly what I expected of him last night and he’ll be a very good addition to our squad. He’s a better player since the last time he was here, a steady player and you know exactly what you are going to get out of him. He’s got a great attitude towards the game which is good to see.”
Barry made over 25 appearances for the Reds during the 2005/6 season as Coleman’s side won the Conference title – but didn’t see out the campaign after the club received an offer for him from Football League side Yeovil Town.
Since then he’s played for Chester and Fleetwood before joining Forest Green last summer. He made over 30 appearances for the Gloucestershire outfit last season.
