JOHN Coleman knows if his Stanley side can keep putting a string of wins together they will make the ‘Promised Land’ of the play-offs.

The Reds won three on the bounce when Coleman took over again in September, before losing two, but then overcame Hartlepool midweek and now they aim to build on this at Newport tomorrow.

“You need to keep putting little runs together,” said Coleman. “It’s the story of this league as, when we won three on the bounce, we were up there among the form teams.

“Luton are the only ones who have put together a run of five or six on the spin but the rest are just putting together smaller runs and if you can keep putting together banks of runs you can get to the Promised Land, which for us is the play-offs.”

Coleman has been impressed with the six games he has overseen since he returned to the Store First Stadium.

“From six performances, we have got 12 points and if someone had offered you that before the games, you would have bitten their hands off.

“We have had four decent performances, one was okay against Plymouth and then there has been one abject one at Stevenage.

“That’s a decent percentage, performances overall have improved and we have to pick up points where we can.

“Points are hard to come by, especially away from home. There are no easy games but, on the flip side, there is no Real Madrid in this league. It works both ways.”

Newport are eighth in the league, three points ahead of the 14^th placed Reds.

“The important thing, when you are playing teams just above you, is not to lose to them as a bit of daylight can quickly become a chasm so that’s why you have to dig in, in these games,” added the Reds manager.
