New Stanley goalkeeper Aaron Chapman believes it will be an honour if he’s selected to play in John Coleman’s first game back at the Store First Stadium this afternoon.

The Reds host Plymouth Argyle with Chapman, who signed on loan from Chesterfield this week, set to make his debut.

“It’s good to be here and have the chance to get a few games,” said the 24-year-old. “The lads have been brilliant since day one welcoming me and helping me to fit in and the staff have been brilliant with me. I’ve been really looking forward to Saturday and hopefully we can get the three points.

“This is a step up for me. I need to put in place the things that I learned in the Conference last year and get a good run going while I am here.

“By my second day I felt like I’d been here two years. Everyone talks to you straight away, it’s a great atmosphere around the training ground and I can only imagine what it will be like when I get to the stadium.

“It’s a special day to be a part of. They (John and Jimmy Bell) did a great job the first time around and to be back here must have really excited the supporters.”

Chapman was spotted by Coleman playing for Chester in the Conference last season and is now looking to make an impact on the Football League.

“As a goalkeeper you have to get games on your CV,” he explained. “I played for Chester last season and the gaffer here saw me play so that’s how you get noticed and how you get you get your games.

“Coming here from Chesterfield I know that this is a hard place to come so getting it to be a fortress like it used to be and making it hard for teams to get away with anything needs to be our aim. Hopefully in the time that I’m here then it will be a fortress.

“I’ve been training all week for a while but now I have a game to look forward to at the weekend. I want to take this opportunity with both hands and see what happens at the end.”
