James Beattie believes his Stanley side can go to Cheltenham and repeat last season’s result – in the process picking up their first win of the new season.
The Reds have been narrowly beaten against both Southend and Leeds United so far but Beattie thinks it’s just a matter of time.
“Your first win is always important,” said the manager. “Every team, up and down the country, no matter what level they are at, it’s important. You want to get points on the board early.
“As everyone knows last season that wasn’t the case for us for a long time or what seemed like a long time but after that the lads were great and that momentum and confidence came to come onto the pitch and get results.
“I can see that is there already so that win will come sooner rather than later. We’ve put lots of work in this week and we feel that win will come on Saturday.
“We’re in a results business and everyone wants to win. Every now and again I suppose you would take not playing the best and getting a result but I think the performance of the boys and the way they apply the things we work on in training out on the pitch is also important.
“It would be great if we could repeat last year’s win. Cheltenham had a fantastic result on the opening day of the season and we’ll have to be on our game. We’ve prepared the lads as best we can and given them all the information on the opposition that we can.
“We have a couple of injuries so we’ll have to look at the bodies that are available and then pick a team to go to Cheltenham and get a good result.”
