Stanley striker Marcus Carver has become the seventh player to sign a new contract with James Beattie’s side this summer.

The youth team graduate has agreed a deal to remain at the Store First Stadium for a further 12 months.

“I’ve signed for another year and hopefully I can make my mark this season,” said the 20-year-old. “I struggled with an injury towards the end of last season but I’m fit again now and looking to come back for pre-season and show the gaffer what I’ve got.

“I think the injury has actually made me stronger. I’ve been watching from the sides for about four months and all I was thinking that I never want to finish with football. What would I have without it? Nothing.”

After playing a part at the start of 13/14 before going out on loan and then suffering injury which kept him on the sidelines for a long spell, Carver’s delighted to get another chance with the Reds.

“I knew I wasn’t in contract for this season but when the manager came to me and told me he wanted me for another year I was delighted. I’m hoping to keep myself fit throughout the season and see what happens.

“During the last pre-season I got a couple of games and didn’t do too badly then got a couple of league games under my belt before going out on loan. It’s all about gaining experience through playing games, wherever that is.

“I’ll be 21 this year so hopefully I can make my mark. James Gray is a great example for me. He’s been called up to the Northern Ireland squad for the first time and last season towards the end he was fantastic. I need to take a leaf out of his book, take my opportunity and push on.”
