Stanley signed off the season with all three points after a good win over AFC Wimbledon.

Strikers James Gray and Kayode Odejayi continued their fine form by sharing the home team’s goals as James Beattie’s men held off a late rally from the Dons to win.

A Reds side showing one change made a lighting start with Odejayi opening the scoring after just five minutes. The Rotherham loanee was alive to a loose ball just outside the box and as Will Antwi dawdled he nipped in to get one on one and find the bottom right corner to net his eighth goal of the season.

The Wimbledon defence were struggling to deal with the Stanley attacking threat and their resistance was broken again in the 19th minute. This time Gray took the spoils, heading a Josh Windass corner beyond Ross Worner to make it 2-0.

The Northern Ireland Under 21 international was proving a handful as first his left wing cross cannoned off a defender and behind for a corner and then Worner kept out his low strike.

At the other end Marcus Bettinelli’s first test came after 32 minutes when he turned a strike from Peter Sweeney around the post.

Largely Stanley were on top though and should have been 3-0 up when Gray crafted a chance for himself on the edge of the box only to see his strike clatter back off the foot of the post.

The visitors made a half time change, with Darren Jones introduced at the heart of the defence but it didn’t shore them up.

Nicky Hunt was denied his first goal for the club when Worner turned his left foot shot around the post after a fine run by the full back but his effort were not in vain as Stanley scored from the resulting corner.

Gray added his second three minutes into the second half, converting another Windass delivery to register his seventh goal of the campaign.

Beattie’s side looked comfortable but saw their lead shortened when sub Danny Hylton went down in the box and red Mark Brown awarded a penalty. Jack Midson stepped up to stroke home and make it 3-1.

Some nerves were set jangling when Bettinelli looked to have kept out an effort from Kwesi Appiah but the referee’s assistant flagged to say the ball had crossed the line. Stanley’s keeper was booked for his protests.

There was to be no drama though as the Reds held on to surpass last season’s points total and end the season on a high.
