Accrington Stanley Community Trust have this morning set off to Scotland on the latest National Citizen Service (NCS) Award with 45 youngsters taking part.
This is the biggest group Stanley have ever taken on a single trip in our first project of 2014. This is the first phase of the course which sees the youngsters take part in outdoor pursuits and activities at Manor Adventure, Lockerbie, Scotland!
The National Citizen Service is a project available to any young people aged 16 or 17. It involves an action packed residential and the chance to make changes to your local community.
The project runs three times a year; spring, summer and autumn during school and college holidays. Each project has several phases;
The adventure begins with a holiday to one of the country’s premier outdoor pursuit’s facilities, doing activities such as caving, abseiling and Kayaking. Accommodation and food all sorted along with waterproof kit and rucksack. So no need to worry about ruining your clothes!
Summer Independence week– our summer projects also involve a five day stay in University halls of residence, here the group will live amongst each other, cooking, cleaning and shopping as a group. There will also be a full programme of activities based at the University for the Group to take part in.
Over to you– you will spend a few days planning your community action project. Whether it is getting children playing sport or giving Accrington a make-over it’s up to you! Based at the Football Club you will have use of the clubs resources to make a difference locally!
Let’s do it– time to put all the plans into action and spend time out in the community doing your community action project with support from Accrington Stanley staff!
Graduation– every participant is invited to a graduation ceremony, a chance for friends and family to see you receive your award signed by David Cameron! This will happen on the pitch at half time during one of Accrington Stanley’s home games.
Each project has limited spaces so early booking is essential to avoid disappointment. The cost of a place on the project is only £35!
