Another stoppage time goal from Peter Murphy gave Stanley all three points at Bristol Rovers.

The midfielder popped up deep into three added minutes to smash in his eighth goal of the season and give the Reds a 1-0 win from a tight game at the Memorial Stadium.

The home side started a cagey first half brightest and crafted one of only a handful of clear chances inside ten minutes. Striker Matt Harrold was the recipient of a fine cross from the right, rising highest to get in a header but only able to guide it over the bar.

The early exchanges saw Stanley on the back foot and standing firm, looking to counter when the opportunity arose. After another Harrold header flew wide one such chance presented itself, with Piero Mingoia firing a low shot straight at Steve Mildenhall.

The best opening of the first half for the Reds fell to Murphy who headed a George Bowerman cross wide after Kayode Odejayi had intercepted a loose pass.

Marcus Bettinelli wasn’t called into serious action until the 34th minute when he denied Kaid Mohamed. The wide man did well to hurdle a challenge down the left and get a shot away but the Fulham loanee turned the ball around the post for a corner.

On a deteriorating pitch the home side started to make more openings after the break with Mohamed shooting into the side netting before beating two defenders and pulling the ball back across the face of goal only to see no team mate able to capitalise.

Openings at the other end were relatively few and far between but Stanley’s solidity was frustrating the Pirates and when sub Ellis Harrison also fired wide of the goal it seemed that it might not be their day.

Lee Brown also went close for John Ward’s side but they failed to test Bettinelli and were made to pay in the 93rd minute.

Stanley’s subs Lee Molyneux and Danny Webber were both involved; the former finding the latter with a cross and he knocked it down for Murphy to smash in the winner.
