Stanley’s trip to Bristol Rovers tonight will bring back good memories for manager James Beattie and he’s looking for a similarly warm feeling when his side leave the Memorial Stadium this time around.

Lee Molyneux’s goal was enough to secure League Two safety in this fixture last season and Beattie feels that occasion will be fondly remembered this evening.

“It was a ridiculous free kick. It was one hell of a strike – another one of his phenomenal strikes from last year,” said Beattie.

“Hopefully if he can get himself in the team he can replicate that and give us some more firepower.

“It’s a good ground for him and it’s a good ground memories wise for us.

“It’s something nice to maybe think about when you’re reminiscing but this game is here and now and we’re in a different situation now.”

“The players are in a good space mentally having come off a great result at Cheltenham.

“It will be interesting to see what sort of state of mind the lads are in with the game being off at the weekend.

“As a player you want to work hard in training during the week and your reward is a place in the team and to play in the game – a competitive match at the weekend.

“The lads were disappointed and that’s what I mean about the mental side of it.

“They had to train instead of running around and working and scrapping for three points.

“Challenges are thrown at you all the time and that’s just one of them. We can’t do anything about the weather.

“You’ve got to adapt to the situation that’s thrown at you.

“I think we’ve done that very well and we’ll be prepared for the game.”
