Stanley striker Kayode Odejayi is sad to be leaving the Store First Stadium – but hopes that his absence will only be a temporary one.

The 31-year-old’s loan spell from Rotherham United expires tomorrow and can’t be extended beyond the maximum of 93 days for an emergency switch.

“My loan’s due to end at the weekend and it would’ve been nice to have another game to play in but obviously we lost to Tranmere so we find ourselves with a free weekend,” said the once capped Nigerian international. “I’ve been here for the week and I’m just getting my head down, enjoying training and letting everything else take care of itself.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself for the last three months, really got to know the lads and the staff and everybody else and I feel very much at home here. If it’s at all possible I’d obviously like to come back and continue that in January. You never know with football do you? I just have to take each day as it comes and see what happens.

“I couldn’t really have asked for it to have gone any better. Obviously we would’ve liked a few more points but during the three months I’ve seen a massive turnaround in fortunes for the club. We’ve just come off the back of a really good run, unfortunately we couldn’t continue that for another game but we always try to take the positives from any situation.”

Odejayi could return when the transfer window reopens in January and feels that he has unfinished business in the red shirt.

“You could say that!” he continued. “I’ve been here for three months and having been part of that revival I want to keep doing that and continue to be a part of it and see where this group of players can go. We’ll just have to see what happens.”

But whatever happens, Odejayi insists that he doesn’t fear for James Beattie’s side in his absence when they return to action a week tomorrow at home to Exeter City.

“We’ve got a good squad now and the gaffer’s got a lot of good options,” he explained. “When I was suspended that probably turned out to be one of our best runs. I think we drew one and won two so I think there’s more than enough there.

“Hopefully it can bring out the best in the individuals and have a knock on effect throughout the team. The ideal situation would be the team continues to do well and I struggle to get back in the side if I can come back!

“If I was to come back and we’d won four on the bounce then I’d take sitting on the bench for a few games. Hopefully the lads can keep picking up results.”
