James Beattie is urging his players not to look back at Tuesday’s first league win of the season – and focus all of their efforts on getting one over local rivals Morecambe.

The Reds defeated Bristol Rovers in midweek but the manager says that minds are now on the trip to the Globe Arena.

“It’s gone and we need to become a little bit selfish and like a machine now; just keep producing results,” he said. “We just need to keep focused on one thing, which is winning football matches. If anyone gets carried away then it won’t be to the benefit of the club and the squad and I’ll see that and then hopefully find that middle ground and keep producing the performances.

“Even a few days in football is a long time and people have probably already forgotten about Tuesday’s result. It’s up to me and the coaching staff to prepare the players for the next game, which is Morecambe.”

Stanley have a proud Football League record to protect against the Shrimps and Beattie knows that there are more than just points at stake.

“It’s a local derby isn’t it?” he continued. “We know what they mean to the supporters. We’ve done our preparation on Morecambe and we’ve prepared the lads as well as we can. I believe it’s about the way we perform, how mentally and physically we approach the game. Then it’s eleven men against eleven men.

“We’ll go into the game looking to win it, as we always do and hopefully we can get the right result and back up the result from Tuesday night. All the work that went into that win will be brushed aside if we don’t put in another performance and get another good result.

“There are a few players in our dressing room who have played in a lot of Stanley-Morecambe games and they’ll be experienced in the games. Hopefully we can draw on that, I’ll speak to a couple of them and we’ll add that to our match preparations.”
